Adolescence director Philip Barantini has joined forces with Netflix to remake the classic crime thriller The Getaway. The 1972 movie centred around Carter "Doc" McCoy and his wife Carol, as they orchestrate a bank robbery in exchange for Doc's release from prison.
When the shady deal goes south, the couple are forced to change their plan and flee to Mexico. But with the police and their criminal foes on their trail, will they get away?
The movie was adapted from Jim Thompson's 1958 novel and starred Steve McQueen and Ali McGraw in the lead roles. It was later remade in 1994 with Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger playing the lawless couple.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Batman writer Peter Craig will pen the upcoming script, as well as producing with Bryan Unkeless under their Night Owl Stories banner.
Meanwhile, Andrew Mittman will also produce the project for 1.21, along with Barantini and Samantha Beddoe for It's All Made Up.

Elsewhere, Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island will be getting its own remake, courtesy of MGM+ and Paramount+. The coming-of-age adventure recently announced its full cast, with David Oyelowo, Hayley Atwell, Jack Huston, Tomer Capone and Tom Sweet all set to star.

The story centres around Jim Hawkins (Sweet), a young boy whose sheltered life is transformed when he finds a treasure map and becomes a pirate.
With his map in hand, Jim and his mother Bess (Atwell) set sail on The Hispaniola to escape their impending doom. But it isn't long before they encounter the terrifying pirate Long John Silver (Oyelowo) and Aaron Graham (Huston), a charming but sneaky British agent.
Filming for the series began back in March, though a release date hasn't been confirmed.
