The upcoming remake of Murder, She Wrote has gotten a major update, with the project securing its director. After years of anticipation, it seems like the murder mystery is progressing swimmingly.

The film is based on the iconic series of the same name, with Jamie Lee Curtis set to step in to the shoes of Angela Lansbury as she portrays Jessica Fletcher, a writer and amateur detective who solves various crimes.

Announced in September 2023, it was confirmed that Dumb Money screenwriters Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo would be penning the script, with Amy Pascal serving as a producer.

In December 2024, filmmaking duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller signed on as executive producers, with Curtis joining the project in July. Now, nearly six months further down the line, we finally have a director.

As per Deadline, Jason Moore, best known for directing Pitch Perfect, will be helming the project. He didn't return to direct the subsequent two instalments in the franchise, though he did serve as an executive producer for both.

What to Read Next

Since his work on the musical comedy, he directed Sisters in 2015 and Shotgun Wedding in 2022, while his TV work includes Dawson's Creek, Everwood and upcoming Legally Blonde prequel, Elle.

Curtis had previously spoken about the upcoming reboot to Murder, She Wrote, with the actor telling Entertainment Tonight in July: "I'm tamping down my enthusiasm until we start shooting. I have a couple other things to hustle and then I'll get to enjoy that work."

The original series, which aired on CBS, ran for 12 seasons and 264 episodes – including four TV films – from 1984 until 1996, with Lansbury portraying the character in every episode.

While Lansbury's Jessica was the main attraction, the series also had many notable recurring stars, with Tom Bosley, William Windom, Ron Masak and Louis Herthum appearing across multiple instalments.

Though we'll have to wait a while for the reboot to hit the big screen, UK audiences did have the chance to prepare accordingly by bingeing the original series, which was available on 5. It's since been removed, but here's hoping it finds another streaming home soon!
