Thunderbolts* actor Lewis Pullman is joining his father in an unexpected sequel to an '80s classic.
In a video posted by Amazon MGM Studios, and following a lengthy text crawl poking fun at the amount of entries some franchises have had, legendary writer/director Mel Brooks announces Spaceballs 2.
"After 40 years, we asked, 'What do the fans want?', but instead we're making this movie," he said. "May the Schwartz be with you."
The Hollywood Reporter has further details: Brooks is returning as Yogurt, while Bill Pullman is also back as Lone Starr. The younger Pullman will play Starburst, the son of Lone Starr and Queen Vespa (Daphne Zuniga, also returning).
Starburst will be one of three lead characters, alongside Keke Palmer as Destiny.

Josh Gad is playing the third lead, and also serves as co-writer alongside Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez.
Rick Moranis, who had taken a long hiatus from live-action film appearances, will be back as Dark Helmet, whose smoking helmet features briefly in the announcement video.

A Spaceballs sequel was jokingly teased in the first film, as Yogurt told the other characters that they might one day do Spaceballs 2: The Search for More Money. Moranis famously claimed over the years that they toyed with the idea of calling it Spaceballs 3: The Search for Spaceballs 2.
At the moment, the film's title and synopsis haven't been revealed. However, as the announcement video teased, there has been plenty of Star Wars for it to parody since the first Spaceballs movie in 1987.
Spaceballs 2 is set for a theatrical release in 2027.
