Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling's forgotten crime thriller Gangster Squad has just been added to Prime Video in the UK and Ireland.

The 2013 film, directed by Venom, Uncharted and Zombieland's Ruben Fleischer, follows a covert group of officers and detectives as they attempt to bring down a criminal empire in Los Angeles.

Alongside Stone and Gosling, the film also stars the MCU's Josh Brolin, Anthony Mackie and Michael Peña, as well as Hulk's Nick Nolte, Ted's Giovanni Ribisi, Terminator 2's Robert Patrick, and Milk's Sean Penn.

Now the film is available to stream for Prime Video subscribers, which is part of the Amazon Prime subscription that costs £8.99 a month or £95 a year, giving you free delivery, music streaming and cloud photo storage too.

There is also a Prime Video only subscription at a slighter cheaper £7.99 a month. It can be quite hard to find, as you have to go the Prime sign-up page and find the option to change your plan.

What to Read Next

Gangster Squad was a minor box office hit at the time of its release, making $105 million at the box office. It hasn't scored highly with critics or audiences, however, sitting at a respective 30% and 57% on Rotten Tomatoes.

As per the site's critical consensus, Gangster Squad was noted for its "stylish" atmosphere and "talented" cast, though the "lacklustre writing" and "undeveloped" characters held the film back from its true potential.

In our review, we praised Penn's "downright scary" performance as Mickey Cohen, while Variety lauded the film as "an impressively pulpy underworld-plunger". The Hollywood Reporter was less enamoured, however, noting that the cast were "barely given any special moments".

Looking ahead, Stone has another project with Poor Things director Yorgos Lanthimos on the way, with the duo teaming up once again on sci-fi film Bugonia, a remake of the 2003 South Korean film Save the Green Planet!.

It was confirmed earlier this month that the film, which also features Jesse Plemons, will actually be screening earlier than originally planned in the US after its release date was brought forward by a week to 31 October.

Gangster Squad is now available to stream via a Prime Video subscription.
