Stephen Graham is set to star in new psychological thriller Bunker – his first role since the success of Netflix series Adolescence.

The Peaky Blinders actor joins an all-star cast headed up by Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem.

Graham's role in Bunker has yet to be confirmed, but according to Variety, his character is set to "play an important role" in the film.

Bardem and Cruz – who are married in real life – will play husband and wife in the "deeply affecting" thriller that will see the couple navigate emotional and moral challenges and fears.

Bunker centres on an architect (Bardem) who accepts a morally ambiguous project to build a survivalist bunker for a tech billionaire. However, the new job leads to his wife (Cruz), questioning their marriage after 17 years together.

The Father and The Son playwright and director was full of praise for Graham as news of his casting broke.

"Since This Is England and more recently Adolescence, I have always been impressed by the emotional power and beauty of his performances," he said.

"I am thrilled to work with an incredible talent like Stephen, whose unique ability, in a single gesture, to break our hearts and frighten us will help make Bunker a deeply affecting thriller."

In addition to its audience numbers, the show was a critical hit too, boasting a near-perfect score of 99% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.

Adolescence is available now on Netflix.
