The first trailer for Hugh Jackman and Laura Dern's new movie The Son has been released.
The film is penned by Florian Zeller and marks the Oscar-winning screenwriter's first project since The Father. Zeller co-wrote the script with British playwright Christopher Hampton, who also co-wrote The Father.
The upcoming Sony Classics film stars Jackman, Dern, Vanessa Kirby and Zen McGrath. They're joined by the legendary Sir Anthony Hopkins, who reunited with Zeller for the drama having previously won an Oscar for Best Actor for his performance in The Father.

Jackman plays Peter, a father grappling with his past as his troubled teen son Nicholas (Zen McGrath) moves in two years after his divorce from his ex-wife Kate (Dern).
While juggling work, his newborn son with his wife (Vanessa Kirby), and the offer of a dream job miles from home – as you can see in the trailer above – he loses sight of how to hold onto his son Nicholas.

According to the synopsis, Nicholas "is troubled, distant, and angry, playing truant from school for months. Peter strives to be a better father, searching to help his son with those intimate and instinctive moments of family happiness. But the weight of Nicholas’ condition sets the family on a dangerous course."
There’s already Oscar buzz for Jackman, who was previously for 2012’s Les Misérables, as well as Vanessa Kirby, who scored a nomination for her portrayal of a grieving woman in 2020’s Pieces of a Woman.
The Son will premiere at this year's Venice International Film Festival on September 7. It will then receive a limited release in US cinemas on November 11. However, as of yet, a UK release date has yet to be announced by Sony Classics.
