The film, from director Patricia Riggen, stars the How to Get Away with Murder actor as US President Danielle Sutton, who resorts to her military training to stop terrorists who have taken a G20 under siege.

After the movie jumped up the viewing rankings, lead star Davis took to her Instagram to celebrate the achievement.

"Wooooooohoooooo!!!!!!!! Seven years of hard work! Seven years of developing and the fruits of our labor has paid off!!" she wrote in her post. "Thank youuuu world....from the bottom of my heart!!!"

Premiered on 10 April, the movie has received mixed reviews from critics and currently sits at a 54% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes out of 39 reviews.

G20 has received praise for Davis' performance, with the AV Club review noting that the lead character exudes "a ferocious toughness without ever seeming superhuman", but criticising the movie as being "hopelessly phony".

IndieWire's review was more lenient, appreciating the "super-fun" premise of the movie, which has been hailed as Air Force One meets Die Hard.

The review also celebrated Davis' turn as President Sutton, calling the star "both so good and so classy that it never feels as if she's punching below her weight class".

Alongside Davis, the film stars The Boys' Antony Starr as main villain Edward Rutledge, a former Aussie soldier turned terrorist.
