Tom Hiddleston and Karen Gillan's new movie The Life of Chuck has finally confirmed its UK release date.

The film is the latest big-screen adaptation of Stephen King's many works, and Gerald's Game and Doctor Sleep's Mike Flanagan once again served as director and writer.

Following its US release on June 6, the film will be coming out in the UK cinemas on August 22.

The film follows an "ordinary man" named Charles 'Chuck' Krantz (Hiddleston), who tragically dies from a brain tumour at the age of 39.

His life story is then told in reverse chronological order, starting with his death and going backwards in time before ending up in his childhood, told across three distinct chapters.

Alongside Hiddleston and Gillan, the film also stars Mark Hamill, Jacob Tremblay, Chiwetel Eijofor, Matthew Lillard, Carl Lumbly, Kate Siegel, David Dastmalchian, Harvey Guillén, Nick Offerman and Rahul Kohli.

The film already premiered at the 49th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) last September, and garnered some very strong reviews. Currently, it has a 86% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes, from 42 critic reviews.

Looking ahead, Hiddleston will also be seen in the second season of The Night Manager, which was finally confirmed last year a whole eight years after season 1 came out.

"The first series of The Night Manager was one of the most creatively fulfilling projects I have ever worked on. The depth, range and complexity of Jonathan Pine was, and remains, a thrilling prospect," Hiddleston said at the time of renewal.

"I'm so looking forward to reuniting with Simon and Stephen Cornwell, David Farr and Stephen Garrett, and to working with Georgi Banks-Davies to tell the next chapter of our story. I can't wait."

The Life of Chuck releases in US cinemas on June 6, and in UK cinemas on August 22.
