I Know What You Did Last Summer has released a first poster for the reboot, confirming how the legacy sequel will intertwine with the original slasher.

Directed by Do Revenge's Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, the upcoming movie marks the return of the hook-wielding killer. Much like the 1997 film, the new instalment centres on a group of friends who inadvertently kill someone in a hit and run and vow to keep it a secret.

When they five protagonists are stalked by a killer one year later, they realise someone other than them knows of the car accident.

In a desperate bid to outsmart the murderer, they turn to the two survivors of the 1997 Southport Massacre — as in, original characters Julie James and Ray Bronson, played by returning stars Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr.

Co-written by Robinson and Sam Lansky, the movie brings together the OG survivors and a new group of leads, much like Scream (2022).

Written by Kevin Williamson (Scream, Dawson's Creek) and directed by Jim Gillespie, the 1997 film also starred Buffy's Sarah Michelle Gellar as Helen Shivers and Ryan Phillippe as Barry Cox.

The plot is inspired by the 1973 novel of the same name by Lois Duncan, with some elements reworked to make it more akin to a classic slasher.

The first movie spawned a first follow-up, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, and a standalone sequel with new characters, I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer.

I Know What You Did Last Summer hits cinemas on July 18.
