Wicked: For Good is landing in cinemas this November, and to make the wait even more agonising, Universal released the final trailer for the eagerly-awaited sequel in late September. It revealed new glimpses at the soundtrack, including the title track, and also the dark twists in store from the musical.
We've known since before production started that Wicked would be split into two movies, a bold move for a musical adaptation. It was a move that has absolutely paid off though as Wicked is now the highest-grossing Broadway adaptation of all time. Will Wicked 2 be able to top the first movie to take that record for itself?
As we count down the days to its release, here's everything you need to know about Wicked: For Good.
Wicked 2 release date – when is Wicked: For Good coming out?
Wicked: For Good will land in cinemas on 21 November, assuming there aren't any release date delays – which we hope won't happen at this late stage
Filming took place on Wicked 2 at the same time as the first movie and wrapped up in January 2024, following an enforced break of production during the 2023 Hollywood strikes.
There could always be planned reshoots, but we'll just assume for now that everything is on track for us to return to Oz this November.

Wicked 2 trailer – watch the Wicked: For Good trailers here!
The first trailer for Wicked: For Good was released in June 2025 after it debuted exclusively at CinemaCon in April 2025.
The trailer featured our first listen to 'For Good' and 'No Good Deed Goes Unpunished', footage of Glinda seemingly at her wedding to Fiyero and Dorothy on the yellow brick road to the Wizard.
Check it out below:
Following a behind-the-scenes featurette in August 2025, Universal then released the final trailer in September 2025.
While we still don't get a clear look at Dorothy (more on her in a bit), we do get closer looks at the Cowardly Lion and the Tin Man, as well as more snippets from the soundtrack for the sequel.

Wicked 2 cast – who's playing Dorothy in Wicked: For Good?
One major new character will be Dorothy Gale, briefly spotted on the yellow brick road at the start of Wicked.
We don't yet know who will be playing her – although Abigail and Matilda star Alisha Weir has been rumoured – but we have already seen footage of Dorothy meeting the Wizard in the first teaser for Wicked, and then in both trailers for Wicked: For Good.
Weir responded to the rumour in February 2025, but obviously didn't confirm anything: "When I saw the rumour, I thought this is absolutely crazy and it went so crazy on social media and everyone was asking me... I mean that would be wonderful."
It's since been revealed that we might not actually see Dorothy's face in Wicked: For Good, as the character will instead be seen from a distance or from behind. "I think that’s such a wonderful thing to do," said Cynthia Erivo of the decision. "Because then everyone gets to keep the Dorothy that they know."
Of course, somebody is playing Dorothy, even if we don't see her face, so that might still be Weir. Whoever is playing Dorothy, they'll obviously be joined by the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion and the Scarecrow, and we know who's playing the Tin Man and the Scarecrow already.
We're about to head into spoilers for the second act of the musical, so look away now if you don't want to know anything.
Assuming the movie follows the story of the musical, then Boq (Ethan Slate) will become the Tin Man and Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey) will become the Scarecrow by the end of the second movie.
While we don't yet know who's playing Dorothy, we already know a lot of the confirmed cast for Wicked 2.
Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande will, of course, be back as Elphaba and Glinda as it's not Wicked without them.
Given that Wicked 2 will tell the story of the musical's second act, it's not a surprise that they'll be joined by practically all of the cast from the first movie, so that includes:
• Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible
• Jeff Goldblum as the Wonderful Wizard of Oz
• Marissa Bode as Nessarose
• Peter Dinklage as Doctor Dillamond
• Bowen Yang as Pfannee
• Bronwyn James as ShenShen
Adam James will also reprise his role as Glinda's father in a new role created for the movie, which could be fleshed out in the second part.
Don't expect to see Andy Nyman back as Elphaba and Nessarose's father though, as he appears to have suffered a fatal heart attack in Wicked's finale. (It would make sense as in the musical, he's dead when the second act starts.)
Wicked 2 plot – what songs are in Wicked: For Good?
Wicked 2 will pick up from the ending of Wicked with Elphaba now declared the "Wicked Witch of the West", while Glinda has become the spokesperson for the Wizard as well as being known as "Glinda the Good".
As mentioned above, we've got a round-up of the biggest Wicked 2 moments we can expect here if you do want to be fully spoiled.
We now have the confirmed soundtrack for Wicked 2 yet which will contain two new songs and a seemingly-revamped opening song.
The soundtrack for Wicked: For Good is as follows:
• 'Every Day More Wicked' – Ensemble
• 'Thank Goodness/I Couldn't Be Happier' – Glinda, Madame Morrible and Citizens of Oz
• 'No Place Like Home' – Elphaba
• 'The Wicked Witch of the East' – Elphaba, Nessarose and Boq
• 'Wonderful' – The Wizard, Elphaba and Glinda
• 'I'm Not That Girl' (Reprise) – Glinda
• 'As Long As You're Mine' – Elphaba and Fiyero
• 'No Good Deed' – Elphaba
• 'March of the Witch Hunters' – Boq and Ozians
• 'The Girl in the Bubble' – Glinda
• 'For Good' – Elphaba and Glinda
• 'Finale' – Glinda, Elphaba and Ozians
"The new songs were written because of the demand of the story, not, 'Oh, let's write a new song and stick it in just because…'," composer Stephen Schwartz told The Messenger (via Broadway World). "The storytelling required it, and therefore they were created – the intention was that they were organic and not imposed on the movie."
Erivo revealed to Variety in December 2024 that she worked with Schwartz on an original song for Elphaba, which we now know is called 'No Place Like Home'.
"I collaborated on one of the new songs, and it's so special to me," she noted. "When we filmed it, the entire crew was in tears. I hope audiences are ready – it's a song that speaks to the heart of who Elphaba is."
Director Jon M Chu has also teased if the first movie was about "choices", then the second movie is about "consequences".
"Choices are difficult to make, but when you do make those choices, sometimes the result isn't what you expect it to be. It can be lonely, it can be hard," he told EW. "There's a lot of soul searching in movie 2."
Perhaps there will be surprises in store in Wicked 2, even if you have seen the musical, as Marissa Bode has been teasing how the sequel tackles a key moment with Nessarose.
In the musical, Elphaba enchants Nessarose's shoes to allow her to walk. Bode revealed that Chu said they changed it "so that it felt less like a fixing moment". Instead, it focuses "on the magic in general and the magic of the story".
Bode added in a separate interview that the changes make the story "less harmful to disabled people", adding: "I don't speak for all disabled people, but I do think the changes that have been made are healthy overall."
As for any other tweaks in store to the story, we'll just have to wait until November.
Wicked: For Good is released in cinemas on 21 November.
