This year's Oscars nominations have just been announced, leaving Wicked: For Good fans stunned at the lack of recognition for John M Chu's musical adaptation.

Awards season is in full swing as we're getting closer to the glitziest night of the year, with the Oscars ceremony hosted by Conan O'Brien returning to the Dolby Theatre in LA on 15 March.

As Ryan Coogler's horror Sinners made history with 16 nominations – besting the previous record of 14 jointly held by All About Eve, Titanic and La La LandWicked: For Good failed to defy the sequel curse.

While 2024's Wicked: Part I earned two Oscars for Best Costume Design and Production Design, For Good didn't receive any Academy shout-out during today's official announcement, with fans of the Oz prequel slamming the snub as "ridiculous".

"WICKED FOR GOOD BEING SHUT OUT OF THE OSCARS COMPLETELY IS RIDICULOUS," one Elphaba and Glinda fan wrote on Threads, while someone else shared their outrage: "Wicked not having a single nomination…. I am Livid."

"'Dream as One' and Wicked not getting any noms ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!," was another comment, also referencing the Miley Cyrus track for Avatar: Fire and Ash that didn't get a Best Original Song nomination.

"Wicked For Good getting zero Oscar nominations feels off. Not even best song??" a person noted.

"Okay I didn't love Wicked: For Good either but ZERO nominations is wild. Not even for the original songs," someone else argued.

"Was there too much competition or is it just like 'been there done that last year'? I'm SO excited for Sinners though. Deserves every nomination."

Wicked: For Good, starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande as Elphaba and Glinda, is far from being the only movie blanking at this year's Oscars.

Noah Baumbach's Jay Kelly didn't score any nod, with the acclaimed performances of George Clooney and Adam Sandler overlooked by Academy voters.

Fresh off a Golden Globe nomination, Jennifer Lawrence's feral turn as a woman struggling with postpartum depression in Lynne Ramsay's Die My Love didn't get the star her fifth Oscar nomination (she won in 2013 for Silver Linings Playbook).

Similarly, Amanda Seyfried didn't receive a nomination for Mona Fastvold's musical epic biopic The Testament of Ann Lee, despite being nominated at the Golden Globes and Critics' Choice Awards this year.

Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another scored big, bagging nods across 13 categories, but young star Chase Infiniti didn't get a Best Actress nomination for the role of Willa.

Also left out of the Best Actress race, Julia Roberts wasn't among the names called out by nominations announcers, actor Lewis Pullman and Oscar-nominated star Danielle Brooks. Roberts previously received a Golden Globe nod for her performance in Luca Guadagnino's drama After the Hunt, which also failed to score any nomination.

Snubbed in the Best Actor category were Dwayne Johnson and Paul Mescal for their roles as Mark Kerr and William Shakespeare in The Smashing Machine and Hamnet, respectively.

The biopic about MMA fighter Kerr earned a nod for Best Makeup and Hairstyling, while Chloé Zhao's Hamnet secured 8 nominations total, including Best Picture, Best Directing, and Best Actress to favourite Jessie Buckley.
