Spider-Man: Brand New Day is swinging into cinemas this July, and we now have finally seen the first trailer for the eagerly-awaited return of Tom Holland's Peter Parker following the dramatic events of No Way Home.
Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton took over from Jon Watts to direct the fourth solo outing for Tom Holland, with Zendaya also returning for the new movie. There's also some other MCU returns to enjoy, but more on those in a bit.
To celebrate the release of the first trailer, here's everything you need to know about Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Spider-Man 4 release date – when will Spider-Man: Brand New Day be out in cinemas?
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be released in cinemas on 31 July, instead of its original date of 24 July 2026. There was no official reason for the delay, but it's likely to give the new movie some space from Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, which is released on 17 July and also stars Tom Holland and Zendaya.
It means that it will have been almost five years since Spider-Man: No Way Home by the time we see Holland's Spidey return. We thought he might make a surprise appearance first in Avengers: Doomsday, but that was delayed from 1 May to 18 December – and it's not even clear whether he'll be in it.
Filming took place on Spider-Man: Brand New Day from August to December 2025. Now that we've had the first trailer, we've got to hope that everything is on track for that July release in cinemas.

Spider-Man 4 trailer – watch the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer here!
As mentioned above, we finally received the first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day on 18 March. The trailer debuted online after a unique release schedule that saw Spidey fans around the world given a short clip to release in the lead-up to the trailer.
When the trailer finally landed, it revealed our first look at the MCU returns of Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner and Michael Mando's Scorpion, but still kept Sadie Sink's character under wraps... or did it?
If you missed it above, watch the Spider-Man 4 trailer below:
Spider-Man 4 cast – who's joining Tom Holland in Spider-Man: Brand New Day?
Tom Holland is, of course, back as Peter Parker for his fourth solo MCU movie, and he'll be joined by Zendaya reprising her role as MJ. He'll be joined by Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned, but of course, neither of them remember who Peter Parker is.
There have been other exciting MCU returns confirmed too, with Jon Bernthal (Frank Castle), Michael Mando (Scorpion) and Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner) all making an appearance in the new movie.
As for newcomers, we know that Sadie Sink will be joining the MCU in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. We don't yet know who she's playing, but fans have been speculating that she could be Jean Grey, something that the trailer appeared to confirm for some fans.
The Bear star Lisa Colón-Zayas has also joined the movie alongside Severance star Tramell Tillman, but like with Sink, we don't know who either of them are playing as of yet.
One person who definitely won't be in it is Marisa Tomei, as Aunt May was tragically killed by the Green Goblin. The multiverse does offer the possibility of an alternate Aunt May (like the alternate Spider-Men), but we feel this won't be done.
It's also unlikely that Andrew Garfield or Tobey Maguire would return, again, to their roles, given that their brief but meaningful appearance in No Way Home is rectified as the plot reseals the multiverse.
However, they do now have official MCU names as "Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" (Maguire) and "The Amazing Spider-Man" (Garfield), so who's to say they couldn't swing by the MCU again?
Garfield would be up for another team-up movie as long as the story called for it, saying: "It would have to be something very unique, very special and serving to an audience and in service of the character."
However, in January 2025, Garfield said that he's had no talks about returning, although admitting that "no one's gonna trust anything I say" given that he fibbed about his No Way Home return.
Kirsten Dunst wasn't asked to come back as Mary-Jane Watson for No Way Home but has always been open that she "would have" reprised the role. Could we see that in a new movie? Let's hope so.
Could we see Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock and Venom in the fourth movie? He does appear in the No Way Home credits scene but is taken back to his own universe. (More on him later.)
Spider-Man 4 plot – what is Spider-Man: Brand New Day about?
Along with the first trailer, we got the official plot synopsis for Spider-Man: Brand New Day which confirmed a four-year time jump for the movie. "Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves," it reads.
"Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he’s devoted himself entirely to protecting his city – a full-time Spider-Man – but as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced."
As the trailer revealed, the movie will see Spider-Man come up against the Hand, as well as other villains Boomerang and Tarantula. It's unclear whether any of them are the main villain though, or if they're just being manipulated by some other power.
One potential option is to deliver a long-awaited battle between Spider-Man and Venom on the big screen, although the trailer gives no indication that it'll actually happen. As we saw in the Venom 2 credits scene, Eddie Brock and Venom are transported to the MCU.
It's because of the botched spell that Doctor Strange casts, but he rectifies it at the end, which means Eddie and Venom are taken back to their universe. A piece of the Venom symbiote is left behind, though, so it could take over somebody in the MCU.
Venom: The Last Dance didn't resolve this lingering issue of a piece of Venom left behind in the MCU. Given that the movie ended with Venom's sacrifice, this piece of symbiote could be a way to finally bring Venom and Spidey together.
That movie has also been confirmed to be the final Venom movie, but Tom Hardy has certainly seemed open to returning as Eddie Brock/Venom. We still think it's unlikely to happen in Spider-Man: Brand New Day though.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is released in cinemas on 31 July.
