Ryan Gosling has said that Blue Valentine is a "cautionary tale", OK reports.

The actor, who stars opposite Michelle Williams in the upcoming drama, said that despite its dark content, the film has not scared him off marriage, but made him consider some of the issues surrounding relationships.

Gosling told reporters at the film's premiere: "I think it's a cautionary tale to see this movie; it gives you a heads-up, what to watch out for. Make sure it doesn't happen to you."

He continued: "I think that most movies pretend that they know everything and this was a film that wasn't pretending to know anything. It was just asking questions that we ask ourselves, what happens to love, why does it go away?

"We spend our whole lives looking for it and we find, and once you move in together, you've got to share the same bathroom, it goes away."

Gosling recently expressed his anger at the MPAA's decision to rate Blue Valentine as an NC-17 certificate movie.
