Good news, Game Boy fans (i.e. anyone who had any interest in gaming during the '90s): you can still get some use out of your old cartridges and relive the tech gadget's heyday by buying a Hyperkin 'Smart Boy'.

The bad news is, you're going to need a phone from the Samsung S8 line upwards.

The device transforms handsets into a vintage-style Game Boy console, compatible with Game Boy and Game Boy Color cartridges.

According to the description, The Smart Boy "will feature an eight-way D-pad; two action buttons; a start and select button; and an included battery that can be charged through the phone itself providing 5 hours of gameplay".

It's currently only available in the US and China but will be coming to British shores in September 2017.

Woohoo!

Although only guaranteed to fit the Samsung devices mentioned above, the blurb does say "other Android device compatibility may vary", suggesting it will work with other handsets.

And if you can use it, it will play all of the 1,600 or so Game Boy and Game Boy Color games released – that means classics like Tetris, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, Donkey Kong, Metal Gear Solid, Mega Man V and Super Mario Land.

You can pre-order the Hyperskin Smart Boy at funstockretro.co.uk – and if you're considering doing that, we're betting you'll also get all excited about the confirmation of the SNES Mini.

A dinky version of the iconic 16-bit console, it comes with 21 games, and will be released on September 29.
