The 100 fans, series boss Jason Rothenberg is "definitely aware" that he annoyed a few of you last season.
Plot points like the death of popular characters Lexa (Alycia Debnam-Carey) and Lincoln (Ricky Whittle) stirred up controversy – as did Bellamy (Bob Morley) betraying the Grounders.
Speaking to press including Digital Spy at San Diego Comic-Con, Rothenberg said: "We don't sit around and try to say, 'How do we appeal to everybody?' We're not trying to do fan service, I'm literally the only person that I'm trying to please.
"I hope that when I like something, that the fans like it. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't."
But Rothenberg did acknowledge that season three of The 100 contained "some controversial calls" as he set out to "really go dark and push the envelope".
"Some people obviously didn't like the Bellamy turn and some people didn't like the Lexa death – and obviously the Lincoln death was controversial, too.

"So we're definitely aware, but I have to trust my instinct as a storyteller. It's still a post-apocalyptic, pulp-y sci-fi action-adventure show – so I'm not trying to say it's Shakespeare by any means – but we're definitely trying to challenge the audience and always put our characters in impossible situations."
Rothenberg's one regret from last season? He conceded that The 100 might've got too dark – with "not enough wins" for our heroes.
"There was probably a relentlessness to the storytelling that wasn't leavened quite as much as it usually is," he said. "Part of that is because Jasper and Monty's characters – who were usually comic relief – they both had depressing as hell storylines too.
"So we cut to the comic relief and it's like, 'Oh shit, that's even more dark than the story we just left!'."
The 100 will return to The CW this fall and airs on E4 in the UK.
