American Dad showrunner Matt Weitzman has discussed a possible crossover with American Dad creator Seth MacFarlane's other show The Orville.

Given they're all under the Disney banner now, the possibility of an overlap seems possible, though Weitzman admitted in a recent chat with Digital Spy and other media at Comic-Con that there isn't anything in the pipeline currently.

"We're thinking about hiring Scott Grimes on the show," he joked in reference to the fact that the actor appears on both series.

"Mike Henry, who's on that show, is a recurring character on our show," he added.

"I'm not necessarily looking to do that, it's kind of whatever works. We won't look for that, but if it works it works."

During the chat, Weitzman also revealed that they once scrapped plans for an American Dad movie, clarifying that there aren't any plans to make a feature length version at the moment either.

"We thought about a movie where we go back to Roger's planet but I want to focus on making the season as good as possible," he said.

The showrunner also revealed that there's a Halloween special in the works where "Steve and Roger try to save them all but it goes dark", as well as a Christmas special.

"We've already mapped [it] out," Weitzman added. "We are doing a metaverse episode with 3D elements."

Additionally, he's also discussed plans for a final episode, admitting that "it could end at any time" and he's okay with that. "I'm ready for it to end today, if they pull the plug," he told us.

"I really have no idea how the show will end. I don't have it in my mind... Unlike The Lord of the Rings where they know the final shot."

American Dad airs on TBS in the US. Viewers in the UK can watch select episodes on BBC Three and ITV Hub. The Orville season 3 streams on Hulu in the US. In the UK, you can watch it on STAR on Disney+.
