Hijack (the hit thriller series starring Idris Elba) is returning for a second season, and Apple TV+ has released a teaser trailer to give fans a glimpse of the next instalment. The new sneak peek hints at what's to come for Sam Nelson (Elba) – aka the unluckiest commuter on television. You can check it out above. Set for release in 2026, season two will premiere globally on 14 January and will consist of eight episodes. The first two available together, followed by one episode weekly until 25 February.

Details surrounding the drama are limited, but Apple has made it clear that Sam will find himself at the centre of another hijack.

"In the thrilling second season of Hijack, a Berlin underground train and its commuters are taken hostage, while authorities scramble to save hundreds of lives," a synopsis reads. "Sam Nelson (Elba) is at the heart of the crisis on board, where one wrong decision could spell disaster."

Rounding out the cast, Elba has reunited with his season one co-stars Christine Adams, Max Beesley and Archie Panjabi, while welcoming several newcomers Christian Näthe, Clare-Hope Ashitey, Lisa Vicari, Toby Jones, Karima McAdams and Christiane Paul are also among the star-studded line-up.

Hijack, which was first released as a limited series in 2023, has enjoyed commercial and critical success in recent years to become one of Apple TV+'s top dramas.

Lauded by critics, season one has received a Certified Fresh score of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.

"The series is patently ridiculous, and features just a little too much time following characters on the ground (including Archie Panjabi's anti-terrorism agent) instead of those in the sky, but Elba can sell the silliest of premises with ease," noted the Globe and Mail.

"Hijack is tension-filled and gripping, often putting the viewer on the edge of their seat," added The Observer.

Meanwhile, Empire wrote of the show: "An instantly enthralling aeroplane-set thriller which deploys its real-time format to ratchet up the tension to the max, while providing Idris Elba with one of his most satisfying roles so far."

"There's enough story to cover the length of the flight, and Elba and the creative team keep things taut when we're in the air," mused Rolling Stone.

Season one of Hijack is available to stream on Apple TV+. Season two will debut on the streaming platform on 14 January 2026.
