He may be known as TV's "grumpiest detective", but Harry Bosch is in hot demand. After both a main and sequel series, as well as a spin-off, we are now getting a prequel show to tell the origins of the man.

As per Variety, Bosch: Start of Watch has been greenlit by MGM+ for Prime Video, with Gotham star Cameron Monaghan set to play the titular detective during his rookie days in the LAPD. Omari Hardwick has also been cast, and will play experienced officer Eli Bridges.

Production will reportedly begin in Los Angeles next year, though a release window is not yet confirmed. The action will take place in the city in 1991, depicting a city teeming with "racial tension, gang violence and a fractured LAPD".

"Amid routine calls and growing unrest, Bosch finds himself drawn into a high-profile heist and a web of criminal corruption that will test his loyalty to the badge and shape his future as the detective who lives by the code, 'Everybody counts or nobody counts'" reads the logline.

Based on the works of Michael Connelly, Bosch: Start of Watch has been co-created by Brian Anthony and Tom Bernardo, with the latter also serving as showrunner. The pair, who both worked on Bosch: Legacy, are producing the prequel too.

Start of Watch is the fourth series in the franchise, following Bosch, sequel show Bosch: Legacy and spin-off Ballard, the latter of which saw Maggie Q play a LAPD detective in charge of a cold case unit.

Bosch: Start of Watch does not yet have a release date.
