Bosch: Legacy, the police procedural featuring television’s “grumpiest detective”, has soared back into the streaming charts following the release of its final season.

The Prime Video show, a sequel series to Bosch, follows the titular detective (Titus Welliver) as he continues to solve crimes in Los Angeles, with the latest season being based on Michael Connelly’s 2022 novel, Desert Star.

Following the release of the third season, which has been confirmed to be the last, on Prime Video earlier this week, the show has proved to be a hit with audiences after reaching #7 in the streamer’s UK and Ireland charts.

It has also resonated with critics, with the three reviews on Rotten Tomatoes all being positive thus far. Collider remarked that the show was “going out on the highest of notes”, whilst FandomWire described it as a “pulse-pounding procedural” that “delivers a healthy slice of righteous justice.”

The positive reviews follow the unanimous critical praise for the first two seasons, both of which secured a perfect 100% approval rating from a combined 24 reviews. They were also a hit with viewers, with each season accruing ratings of 90% and 80% respectively.

In the critical consensus for the first season, Rotten Tomatoes noted that “television's grumpiest detective keeps his Legacy alive and well”, with the reboot picking up right where the original series left off whilst “pleasingly tweaking the formula.”

Whilst Bosch: Legacy is nearing its conclusion, the character still has a future on the small screen, with Welliver’s detective due to appear in the upcoming spin-off series based on one of Connelly’s other literary characters, Renée Ballard.
