The Girlfriend, the "sinister and addictive" psychological thriller from Prime Video, has received an exciting update.
Starring House of Cards actor Robin Wright opposite House of the Dragon's Olivia Cooke, the drama series follows Wright as a woman named Laura whose life is disrupted when her son Daniel (Laurie Davidson) brings home his girlfriend Cherry (Cooke).
Per the synopsis, Laura's "perfect life begins to unravel when Daniel brings home Cherry, a girlfriend who changes everything. After a tense introduction, Laura becomes convinced Cherry is hiding something.
"Is she a manipulative social climber, or is Laura just paranoid? The truth is a matter of perspective."
Based on Michelle Frances' novel of the same name, the show has now confirmed its release date and all six episodes will be available to stream on Prime Video on 10 September globally.

As well as confirming its release date, the streamer has also released a series of first-look images along with an official teaser trailer for The Girlfriend.
In the images, we see Wright's Laura and Davidson's Daniel sharing a warm embrace, while another picture shows Cooke's character looking shifty.
Rounding out the cast are Waleed Zuaiter, Tayna Moodie, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Karen Henthorn, Anna Chancellor, Leo Suter, and Francesca Corney.
In a review of the source novel, The Sunday Mirror described it as a "brilliantly twisty, sharp, sinister and addictive" story.

Meanwhile, Booklist compared the novel to Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl, saying: "All will relish the tension and surprise delivered by each development as they try to identify the villain and discover the truth right up to the shocking conclusion."
If the teaser trailer is anything to go by, The Girlfriend looks set to be a binge-watch must full of twists and turns.
The Girlfriend will premiere on Prime Video on 10 September.
