Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard has said he is "very confused and sad" about his character Mike Wheeler's ending in season 5.

The hit Netflix sci-fi series will land on the streaming service at some point in 2025 with its fifth and final season, though plot details are being kept strictly under wraps.

Thanks to a teaser trailer, which was released last year, we do know the finale will pick up in the autumn of 1987, 18 months after season four's March 1986 cliffhanger.

Season four ended with Eleven defeating Vecna, though not before he enacted his plan to open a portal between Hawkins and the Upside down, hinting at a final battle of Hawkins.

Speaking to People magazine about how the story ends for Mike, Wolfhard said: "I was so happy with his ending, and I don't know, I was satisfied, but I was also very confused and sad, but also very happy."

Opening up about finishing the show for good, Wolfhard, who has starred as Mike Wheeler since Stranger Things first aired in July 2016, said it "was definitely a lot".

"I felt like I was in a dream or something," he added. "None of it felt real. I don't know, it felt perfect."

On what it felt like to film his last ever scenes, Wolfhard said: "I just couldn't believe it at all. It didn't really start to go into focus until the next day. It was like an emotional hangover. But it ended really well, and I just have such positive things to say about everyone."

"The cast all stayed for the last day, we were all there together. It was really great to be around each other."

Meanwhile, the Duffer Brothers recently teased an emotive scene for Sadie Sink's Max in the show's finale, saying: "We did film a scene the other day with her that was just absolutely heartbreaking. I don't know how she hits those notes."

Stranger Things seasons 1-4 are streaming on Netflix. A fifth and final season is in production. Stranger Things: The First Shadow is now booking until 7 September 2025 at the Phoenix Theatre in London. Tickets are available now.
