The Umbrella Academy spoilers follow.

The Umbrella Academy have saved the world once again and now they have a bit of time to relax... kind of. Nothing is ever quiet for too long in this family's life.

But as can be expected, saving the world from the apocalypse comes with a catch, considering none of our superheroes have their superpowers anymore. Which isn't ideal if something else requires them.

Or… maybe this brave new world has a different team of dysfunctional super-powered peeps looking after them?

We have no idea, but there's definitely more of the story we're yet to see. Now it's just a case of figuring out when we'll see them.

Here's everything you need to know about the next season...

While Netflix has confirmed that The Umbrella Academy will be back for a fourth season, the streamer also said it will be the show's last.

And as for a release date... we have one! After Netflix previously confirmed that the final season would air at some point in 2024, in February it was announced that the new episodes would come to the streaming platform on August 8.

This was confirmed in an Instagram post, with a caption that referenced Klaus' palm tattoos: "hello: 15 february, 2019. goodbye: 8 August 2024."

Way back in 2022, Blackman shared a snap of the cover page for the season premiere script. It revealed the title: 'The Unbearable Tragedy of Getting What You Want', giving fans a taste of what might be in store.

On Instagram, Blackman captioned the post: "And so it begins… one last time..."

"I'm so excited that the incredibly loyal fans of The Umbrella Academy will be able to experience the fitting end to the Hargreeves siblings' journey we began five years ago," Blackman previously said when the show's end was officially confirmed.

"But before we get to that conclusion, we've got an amazing story ahead for season four, one that will have fans on the edge of their seats until the final minutes."

That sounds like one hell of a promise.

It seems the family may be going international as well, considering the season 3 end credits sequence suggested Ben was up to something over in Korea.

It's been a while, but there has been lots going on in the world of The Umbrella Academy. Production on the final season began in February 2023, and in March of this year, Blackman confirmed that post-production was now complete.

We also now know, thanks again to Blackman, that The Umbrella Academy's final season will consist of just six episodes, making it the shortest to date. However, at this point, we don't know how long each episode will run.

One thing's for sure, though: The cast is going to miss the show just as much as we will.

Emmy Raver-Lampman, who plays Allison Hargreeves, spoke to PopCulture.com about hanging up her apocalyptic hat, saying: "I'm going to be so sad to say goodbye to these characters and I'm already dreading the last day on set. I'm going to be a wreck, but I also feel really grateful that we know that it's our last season."

She added: "That we get to not take a moment of being together for the last time for granted [is so important].

"We get to give these characters and the fans of the show an ending that they all deserve because a lot of shows don't get that opportunity, and so I think we all are feeling very, very lucky to get to go back to Toronto and film one more time and to tie it off with a very dysfunctional but pretty bow, I'm sure."

The Umbrella Academy season 4 cast: Who's in it?

When The Umbrella Academy does come back, it wouldn't be the same without... well, the Umbrella Academy. The alive ones at least.

Currently, as far as we know at least, this stands at:

• #1 – Luther (played by Tom Hopper)
• #2 – Diego (played by David Castañeda)
• #4 – Klaus (played by Robert Sheehan)
• #5 – Number Five (played by Aidan Gallagher)
• #7 – Viktor (played by Elliot Page)

Elliot Page's transition was incorporated into season three, with Viktor coming out to his family and embracing his male identity. The move was something that's been praised by fans and Elliot alike for its simple acknowledgement rather than making it a major focal point of the show.

Ritu Arya – who has also been confirmed to return as Lila – praised the difference it made on set and how it was a display of allyship with their friend as he adjusts to his new life.

"I just feel so proud of the writers and Steve Blackman for how they wrote Elliot's character this season, and they had help from Elliot, too," she explained to Glamour. "It was done in such a sensitive way.

"That just being written in the show that way shows allyship. It shows support to the community without being preachy in any way; it is just, 'This is a person with a story and that’s it!' Showing that is all we want."

With the cancellation announcement came confirmation that other characters will return too – including those whose fates were up in the air.

Colm Feore, who plays manipulative genius/dad/alien Reginald Hargreeves, will be back, as will Justin H Min as Ben – even though it looks like he'll at least be on his own mission to begin with.

Crucially, Emmy Raver-Lampman, who plays Allison, has also been confirmed to come back, despite her future being open to interpretation. Is she alive following the season three finale? (We've had debates in the office... no idea).

Allison's return was confirmed in a first-look image that was shared by the show in February, showing all the Hargreeves siblings, as well as Lila, back in action.

But then there are other characters who we'd like to see again but we don't know if we will. Among those is Stanley (Euphoria's Javon Walton), Lila and Diego's fake child, who vanished into thin air as part of the kugelblitz (after accidentally killing off his uncle Klaus and revealing his immortality so... silver linings and all that).

Luther's new wife Sloane (played by Genesis Rodriguez) has also disappeared into thin air, so he's now on a mission to find her.

Jordan Claire Robbins, who plays the family android and de facto mother figure Grace will also probably be back.

But considering the wall between alive and dead (and not to mention several timey-wimey loopholes they could come up with), even if someone has been killed off we wouldn't rule out their potential to turn up again at some point.

Alongside these returns and potential returns, there will be some exciting new cast members in the final season.

Parks and Recreation stars (and real-life couple) Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally are set to play community college doctors Gene and Jean Thibedeau. Meanwhile, Arrested Development's David Cross will join the show as business owner Sy Grossman.

With these names on board, The Umbrella Academy is surely going out with a bang.

The Umbrella Academy season 4 plot: What will happen?

While we have no doubt there'll be a new apocalypse for the team to be dealing with, there's not much really to go on at the moment about where the world stands and what could happen to the gang.

All we know is that none of them have their powers now... which could mean big trouble if the end of the world emerges again.

Fresh from his wedding (and then inexplicably dying and coming back to life), Luther is now on a mission to find his wife Sloan, who for some reason didn't appear through the elevator doors with the rest of the gang.

Diego and Lila seem ready and content to live a normal life, but after years as badass superheroes, can they actually manage to do that?

While we're at it, is Allison alive or dead after being sent into a new world where she's with daughter Claire and husband Ray at the same time? We have a feeling she may have moved on to her own personal heaven... and if she's pulled out of that, we don't think she's going to take that well. Especially considering what a dark path she was going down before.

But the world that we've seen her in isn't realistic. Ray and Claire both exist in the same timeline, but in different eras. Ray was Claire's husband in the '60s, and we discover in season three that he died before her return to the present day. Claire was born from her relationship with ex-husband Steve... so something there has to give.

On top of this, Viktor will also be dealing with life without his best friend Allison, the sibling he was arguably closest to before and after his transition (at least to begin with). Adjusting to his new life, and not just the new world, may also see him find love or a family of his own. We'll find out soon enough.

Then there's Reginald Hargreeves, who has finally reunited with his late wife, turning the whole thought process of why he was messing with time and space itself actually oddly romantic when you think about it. If you ignore the potential genocide his attempts to get her back created.

But now they're back together, what does Reginald plan to do now? Or is he going to disregard the chaos he's created and the lives he's ruined in order to go and live a somewhat quiet life?

Very little has been revealed about the final season, but in a recent interview, Elliot Page got us all excited when he teased: "I'm not really allowed to say anything, but it's gonna be, as per usual, very fun, classic Hargreeves chaos and hijinks."

The Umbrella Academy season 4 trailer: When can I see it?

There is currently no trailer for season four of The Umbrella Academy, unless you want to ask Five to jump through some time-loopy apocalypse madness to find it.

We're a bit of a way off, we're afraid. But fear not, August is fast approaching, so it presumably won't be long before we're treated to some new footage. Once it ends up in our timeline, we'll be sure to let you know.

Keep an eye on things here and we'll update this as soon as we hear something.

The Umbrella Academy is available now on Netflix.
