The showrunner for The Umbrella Academy has revealed the first look at the final season of the Netflix show.
Posting on Instagram, Steve Blackman showcased the cover page for the script of the season premiere, which is titled ‘The Unbearable Tragedy of Getting What You Want’.
Blackman, who is currently attached to helm a television adaptation of video game Horizon Zero Dawn, posted with the caption: “And so it begins… one last time ❤️☂️ @netflix @netflixgeeked @umbrellaacad
The fourth and final season of the superhero show was announced in August, with Elliot Page, Tom Hopper and David Castañeda all set to return.

“I'm so excited that the incredibly loyal fans of The Umbrella Academy will be able to experience the fitting end to the Hargreeves siblings' journey we began five years ago,” said Blackman in a statement upon the announcement of the fourth season.

“But before we get to that conclusion, we've got an amazing story ahead for season four, one that will have fans on the edge of their seats until the final minutes,” he concluded.
He previously explained the process behind adapting the graphic novels as they are published, revealing that he is in regular contact with writers Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá to make sure the show stays true to the source material.

“They [Gerard and Gabriel] know the next 10 volumes that they'll write over a decade. So they always share with me where they think they're going,” said Blackman.
“We've come to an understanding that the graphic novel and the TV show can coexist. We inspire each other. Things we do in the show, often they say, 'Hey that's cool, we'll put that in the graphic novel.’
“I'd like not to get too ahead of the comics. I don't want the show to eventually completely go off to a corner that doesn't match anything they're doing."
The Umbrella Academy seasons 1-3 are now streaming on Netflix. Season 4 has been confirmed.
