The Umbrella Academy boss Steve Blackman has taken to Twitter to reveal a key detail about the show's upcoming fourth and final season.
Blackman revealed to fans that the final season of the Netflix superhero show will consist of six episodes. This will make the show the shortest season in the show's pantheon so far, with seasons 1-3 each having 10 episodes, including the dramatic third season.
Some fans didn't quite believe the surprising news at first, with one fan writing: "THERE IS NO WAY THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY S4 HAS 6 EPISODES STOP LYING THAT ISN'T TRUE STOP."

However, Blackman himself took to Twitter to reassure this fan — and all others — that while the final season will dip in quantity of episodes, it won't dip in quality of product.
Blackman wrote: "It’s true. But you’re going to love them."

Some fans have since argued for the episodes to be longer to make up for the fewer entries. Blackman has not spoken about how long each episode in season four may be, but it is not unprecedented that they could be longer.
Game of Thrones' shorter final season featured longer-than-usual episodes, while Netflix itself embraced feature-length episodes in Stranger Things season four, with the final two episodes of that season clocking in at around an hour and a half each.

Emmy Raver-Lampman, who plays Allison Hargreaves, recently spoke about the show ending with its fourth season, saying that she is "going to be a wreck" come the conclusion of the fantasy series.
"I'm going to be so sad to say goodbye to these characters, and I'm already dreading the last day on set. I'm going to be a wreck, but I also feel really grateful that we know that it's our last season."
The Umbrella Academy seasons 1-3 are now streaming on Netflix. Season 4 has been confirmed.
