Note: There are spoilers below for Game of Thrones' final season.
Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is wading into yet another contentious debate with the show's passionate fanbase.
Last weekend, the Primetime Emmy Award-nominated actor angered some when he mocked the fan petition to remake the much-derided final season.
Now, he's taking on the debate over whether writers were true to Jaime by having him abandon his newfound relationship with Brienne of Tarth to return to save Cersei in King's Landing – where he died trying to rescue her.
During the show's last-ever panel at Comic-Con International this weekend, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau had a surprising initial answer when asked if he thought Jaime would have returned to Brienne if he'd survived the King's Landing massacre.
"It would have been Brienne and Jaime forever," he joked.

When the moderator asked if he was being serious, the actor let the cheering crowd down gently: "I think he's got a lot of baggage, and I think she would probably find out after a few weeks, and go, 'No, I'm going to have to move on to someone else'. Tormund!"
Earlier in the panel, Coster-Waldau heaped praise on the bittersweet epilogue for Jaime, in which Brienne transcribed his heroic deeds in the White Book.
"I thought it was perfect for that character, ending in the arms of Cersei," he said. "It made sense, to me. For me, the scene with Gwendoline Christie as Brienne when she fills in the blanks in the book, was really beautiful.
"I think that showed her understanding of Jaime and her love of Jaime. I thought that was just a beautiful scene."
