University Challenge has reached its quarter-finals stage, with tonight's instalment featuring Warwick University vs Emmanuel College, Cambridge.

That meant the return of a viewers' favourite, Warwick student Sophie Rudd - and although her presence guaranteed some dazzling answers, there was also some inevitable trolling and ignorance.

People were of course annoyed by some of the nastier comments online, prompting some strong language:

But hearteningly, there was also a flood of support for a competitor whose breadth of knowledge can be summed up like this:

Although Rudd put in a strong performance and had the last word ("sciatic"), in the end Warwick lost out this time, prompting some sadness.

However, people were at the same time happy to see another favourite, Bobby Seagull, take one step closer to the next round:

And Rudd still has a chance - Warwick University just need to win their next two matches.
