Cuckoo, the "unpredictable" and "gripping" horror-thriller featuring Downton Abbey star Dan Stevens, has just landed a new streaming home in the UK. So if you fancy a nail-biter to watch over the weekend, this could be up your street!
Written and directed by Tilman Singer, the 2024 film sees Hunter Schafer portray Gretchen, a teenager who relocates to the German Alps to live with her father (Marton Csokas) and his new family following the death of her mother.
After securing a job at the resort, Gretchen's supervisor, Herr König (Stevens), who is also her father's boss, draws her family into a sinister and disturbing plot - with bloody and deadly consequences.

Featuring Jan Bluthardt and Jessica Henwick in supporting roles, the horror-thriller was added to Netflix in the UK on Thursday (25 June), meaning those of you with a subscription can stream it now.
Though not a hit at the box office, Cuckoo was generally praised by critics, with Rotten Tomatoes currently reporting a solid approval rating of 79% from 201 reviews. The audience score, however, is markedly lower at 58%.
What to Read Next
"Cuckoo is far from perfect, but Hunter Schafer's acting and a satisfying twist make it worth a watch," penned The Chicago Reader, while The Daily Beast dubbed it "bewildering and gripping".
HeyUGuys was also full of praise, writing: "Cuckoo is a haunting and intricately crafted film with standout performances from Schafer and Stevens... [It] excels in its exploration of disturbing themes, creating a memorable and unforgettable cinematic experience."

"It's so refreshingly unconventional and unpredictable in every way, right down to its raucous, entertainingly silly finale, that it's hard to care about the plot details that get discarded along the way," opined Bloody Disgusting.
"One may wish that the absurdity of the conceit had been matched by a bit more irreverence in the script and audacity in the imagery," noted Slant Magazine, while Variety dubbed it "energetically outlandish".
Cuckoo is available to stream on Netflix.
