England's World Cup campaign continues this Saturday (11 July) as the Three Lions face Norway in the quarter-finals at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, days after their dramatic victory over Mexico.

England's journey through the tournament has kept fans on the edge of their seats. Harry Kane's team topped Group L after beating Croatia and Panama, before producing a second-half comeback against the Democratic Republic of the Congo. They then overcame Mexico book their place in the last eight.

Their Norwegian opponents, however, will provide another challenge. Football fans are already anticipating an exciting showdown, with Erling Haaland set to line up against his Borussia Dortmund teammate Jude Bellingham. Norway finished second in Group I after victories over Senegal and Iraq before suffering a 4-1 defeat to France.

They have since bounced back in the knockout stages with wins over Ivory coast and Brazil, reaching the quarter-finals for the first time and establishing themselves as formidable opponents for England.

Who could England play if they get through?

A total of 48 teams began the FIFA World Cup 2026, but only only four of them will reach the semi-finals. So far, only France have secured their place after beating Morocco on Thursday (9 July).

England and Norway remain in contention alongside Spain, Belgium, Argentina and Switzerland. Spain and Belgium are due to meet this Friday (10 July) from 8pm, while Argentina and Switzerland face each other immediately after England's clash, with coverage beginning at 1.15am on ITV.

This wouldn't be the first time England have progressed this far. At the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the Three Lions also reached the quarter-finals before suffering a 2-1 defeat to France.

Which teams are no longer in the World Cup?

Germany and Brazil are among the biggest absentees from the quarter-finals, marking the first World Cup in history in which neither nation has reached the last eight. South Africa, the USA, Canada, Japan, the Netherlands, Ivory Coast, Sweden, DR Congo, Senegal, Ecuador, Croatia, Australia, Algeria, Ghana, Morocco, Brazil, Egypt, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Cape Verde have all been eliminated so far.

Elsewhere, Haiti, Turkey and Tunisia exited during the group stage. Haiti notably lost to Scotland in only their second World Cup appearance since 1974. Paraguay were also knocked out after a narrow 1-0 defeat to France in the round of 32.

Other teams eliminated before the knockout rounds include Uruguay, South Korea, Czechia, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iran, Jordan, Iraq, New Zealand, Panama, Uzbekistan and Curacao.

England will be hoping they do not join that list on Saturday evening. Victory over Norway would send Thomas Tuchel's side into the semi-finals, due to take place on 14 and 15 July. But can England really move ahead? And will the semi-finals confront them to a rematch with France? Only time will tell.
