The BBC has acquired the Australian adaptation of beloved British sitcom Ghosts. Ghosts Australia is an eight-part series and will air on BBC Three and stream on BBC iPlayer soon.

The original version of Ghosts ran for five seasons from 2019 to 2023 and starred many names made famous by Horrible Histories and Yonderland, including Simon Farnaby, Matthew Baynton, and Martha Howe-Douglas.

The Australian version stays pretty close to the original with the couple haunted by an eclectic mix of spirits from the past, all with their own crazy backstories.

Speaking about the series, Nick Lee, Head of BBC Programme Acquisition, said: "It’s a fresh and very fun spin of the wheel for this beloved BBC format. Fans will really enjoy the world this new ghoulish gang create."

The original Ghosts holds a near-perfect 96% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with seasons two, three, and five boasting a 100% score.

Reviewing season 3, The Times wrote: "The brilliance of this comedy lies in the way it weaves big themes into its silliness. Is there a bigger human subject than the end of life?"
