A "compelling" thriller show starring Shetland's Archie Panjabi will be departing Netflix this month. Departure, which ran from 2020 to 2023, stars Panjabi as Kendra Malley, the lead Transport Safety and Investigations Bureau (TSIB) investigator who is called in to track the disappearance of Flight 716, a passenger plane that vanished travelling over the Atlantic Ocean.
Alongside Panjabi, the cast also includes Kris Holden-Ried and Mark Rendall as TSIB investigators Dominic Hayes and Theo Barker respectively, as well as The Sound of Music's Christopher Plummer as Howard Lawson, the senior manager of the TSIB and Kendra's mentor.
The show ran for three seasons, with the first receiving largely positive reviews. The Post NZ wrote at the time: "If ever there was a time to watch a show about a plane disappearing with 255 souls on board during a global pandemic that has stopped most air travel, this is it."

Meanwhile, Tell-Tale TV wrote: "Departure is a smart thriller that keeps you engaged from start to finish. While there are a couple of issues, overall it is a compelling mystery."
The show was originally broadcast on Global Network before becoming available to stream on Netflix. However, it will soon be departing the platform, with the last day to watch being 30 June.

Panjabi also stars in Shetland as Detective Sergeant Asha Israni, who appears in season three. Based on Ann Cleeves' novels, the show follows a local police team that investigates grisly crimes within a close-knit island community. However, season three is the only one not to be based on one of Cleeves' books.

The show's tenth season concluded in December 2025, and it was revealed in April 2026 that production on season 11 was underway, with a clapperboard picture showing the two leads, DI Ruth Calder and DI Alison 'Tosh' McIntosh (Ashley Jensen and Alison O'Donnell), on set together.
Fans should expect a lot of twist and turns, as BBC commissioning editor Gaynor Holmes previously said there'll be a "kind of emotional punch that keeps viewers hooked".
The statement added: "Alison and Ashley lead our stellar core cast who are joined by a brilliant line‑up of guest stars and supported by a crew whose craft and passion shine through in every frame – together showcasing Scotland on screen at its very best."
Departure is available to stream on Netflix until 30 June.
Shetland is available to stream on BBC iPlayer, ITVX, Apple TV, and Prime Video.
