Kate Garraway has spoken out on her blossoming new romance with economist, journalist and podcast host Liam Halligan, admitting the pair have yet to have a "proper date".

Rumours of a relationship between the two were addressed head-on by Halligan last week in a column for The Spectator, in which he revealed "there’s a definite spark between us", although it's "early days".

Now, the Good Morning Britain anchor has told the Mirror: "It is lovely. I suppose it is!"

She added: "We basically haven’t really had time for a proper date! I don’t want to jinx it! I don’t want to say anything because I will jinx it! I will jinx it. We all love an Irishman, don’t we?

Garraway became a widow in January 2024 when her husband Derek Draper died following a long battle with Covid. The two had been married since 2005, and he fell ill with the virus in the early days of the pandemic in March 2020.

Kate shed light on their family's ordeal in the documentaries Kate Garraway: Finding Derek and Kate Garraway: Derek’s Story. The latter won for Authored Documentary at the 2024 National Television Awards.

Since then, she became a fan favourite on the first series of The Celebrity Traitors, which she credited with helping her after "quite a few years recently of being quite sad".

She told her fellow contestants: "I feel like I’ve learnt lots from all of you in different ways. I mean, sorry if it sounds a bit naff, but I feel a bit inspired, I feel like I’ve laughed so much.

"I think I’ve had quite a few years recently of being quite sad and have to be quite controlled and inward looking - and you’ve all made me feel a bit like I’m looking out."
