Alison Steadman has said she is on the mend after a "terrible" fall earlier this year. The actress - who played the iconic Pam Shipman on Gavin & Stacey throughout its run - tripped on an uneven bit of concrete at a restaurant, and was left struggling to walk.

She was out of the country in Dubai at the time, and spent a short period of time using a wheelchair while she recovered.

Now, providing an update, she said: "That fall was just terrible, shocking – it was an awful time.

"I’ve got to have another operation on my foot soon, to take the metal screws out of it."

Speaking to the Mirror, she added: "But I’ve finally just stopped using a stick, which is great – I am walking again, hurrah!"

The 79-year-old had previously told of how fortunate she felt that the fall hadn't been worse.

She told the Daily Star: "I knew when I fell that it was serious. The pain was so bad. If I’d banged my head the way I banged my foot, I promise you, I would not be here.

"Every time I get fed up, I say that to myself. The important thing is that I’m alive."

Steadman was recently seen reprising her role as Sue Jessop in the critically-acclaimed BBC sitcom Here We Go, which returned for a third series over the summer and was confirmed to have boosted its iPlayer ratings by 70% compared to series two.

Last month, a fourth was commissioned, with Steadman set to return alongside Tom Basden, Jim Howick, Katherine Parkinson, Freya Parks, Jude Morgan-Collie, Tori Allen-Martin, Mica Ricketts, Ed Kear and Jon Furlong.

Creator Tom Basden said in a statement: "The Jessops are like a second family to me, so I’m utterly delighted to be bringing Here We Go back on the BBC for a catastrophic New Year’s special and I can’t wait to start work on series 4!”

Steadman may be an eternally welcome presence on our screens, but she revealed earlier this year that she may not be seen on-stage again.

Appearing on This Morning, she was asked if it was true that she didn't want to do theatre work anymore due to "stage fright".

"Yeah, really," the actor said. "I've put my shift in and it was my favourite thing. I absolutely loved it, but no more."

She did, however, provided pre-recorded voiceovers for new musical Lovestuck at Theatre Royal Stratford East, a comedy loosely based on the viral story of a woman who had an unfortunate toilet and bathroom window-related incident on a first date.

Gavin & Stacey, meanwhile, broke huge ratings records when it aired its finale last Christmas.
