A new "retro-infused" detective drama starring Matt Berry and Natasha Lyonne has been announced. Force & Majeure, which is also co-created by the pair, is being made by Sky.

The series focuses on a British art expert called Thomas Force (Berry) and a US mercenary called Jennifer Majeure (Lyonne) who are recruited by a strange, justice-obsessed billionaire called Amanda Daventry.

The pair must defeat the evil plans of villains across Europe, while also working together to escape Amanda's clutches, who isn't giving them the whole story, according to Deadline.

Force & Majeure has been touted as a "retro-infused, playfully irreverent take on the classic TV action-adventure detective genre", and has been co-created by What We Do in the Shadows' Tom Scharpling.

The Inbetweeners' Iain Morris and Russian Doll's Cirocco Dunlap are credited as writers alongside Scharpling.

A release date is yet to be announced, and in the meantime, why not take a peruse through a list of more unorthodox detective series.

natasha lyonne, poker face
Peacock//NBC Universal

Poker Face

Lyonne also stars in this acclaimed series, where she plays Charlie Cale – a woman who has a brilliant ability to detect people's lies. Each episode sees her try to solve a case-of-the-week murder, with the show taking a reverse whodunnit – or 'howcatchem' – format like forbears such as Columbo.

Created by Knives Out's Rian Johnson, Poker Face recently aired its second season, which Digital Spy called a "brilliant ride".

"It's murder but it's fun. It's serious at times but stops short of becoming too dark," we said. "Johnson's writing permits you to feel sympathy for the killers, contempt for some victims, but no one is without understanding."

James Norton played the Reverend Sidney Chambers for the first four seasons, before being succeeded by Reverend William Davenport (Tom Brittney) and then Reverend Alphy Kottaram (Rishi Nair) – the latter of whom Digital Spy called the "perfect replacement".

The series has aired on ITV since 2014, though will be concluding with its 11th season – so what better time to catch up on ITVX.
