The Great British Sewing Bee has announced a new presenter for the next series of the much-loved BBC show.

Comedian, writer and actor Sophie Willan will be joining the sewing competition show for next year’s series, and will also host the Christmas Celebrity Special later this year.

Sophie is best known for her 2020 sitcom Alma’s Not Normal, which won three BAFTAs. She’s also appeared in a number of series including Ludwig, Time and Open All Hours, as well as being a contestant on the 17th season of Taskmaster.

The comedian was also recently announced as a new judge on the upcoming series of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK. On The Great British Sewing Bee, she replaces the last series presenter Sara Pascoe, who helmed the show for the last three series. Pascoe followed Claudia Winkleman, Joe Lycett and Kiell Smith-Bynoe as presenter of the show.

Cal Turner, Commissioning Editor, said of the new series: "We are delighted to welcome Sophie Willan to The Great British Sewing Bee.

The Great British Sewing Bee was launched in 2013 and, in a similar format to The Great British Bake-Off, sees 10 contestants complete three tasks each episode, with the weakest being eliminated each week.

Last year’s series was won by Luke-Matthew Iveson. The 2025 series, which features long-time judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young, is due to conclude on Tuesday 16 September.

The new series of The Great British Sewing Bee will premiere in 2026.
