James Norton's "extraordinary" Netflix drama House of Guinness has received its powerful first trailer.

From Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, the new series is inspired by the real-life Guinness family, one of Europe's most enduring dynasties.

"Set in 19th-century Dublin and New York, the story begins immediately after the death of Sir Benjamin Guinness, the man responsible for the extraordinary success of the Guinness brewery," the synopsis reads.

The period drama explores the "far-reaching impact" Sir Benjamin's will has on his four children, Arthur (Anthony Boyle), Edward (Louis Partridge), Anne (Emily Fairn) and Ben (Fionn O'Shea).

Netflix has now released the first trailer for House of Guinness, which looks set to be a "powerful and debaucherous" period drama.

Per the trailer, the four Guinness children attend their father's funeral and then gather to hear his will, where they are told that Arthur and Edward are given control of the brewery. Later, trouble appears to be brewing after a protest breaks out.

Speaking about the new show, which will premiere on Netflix on 25 September, Knight said: "It's the extraordinary story of a family who happens to be the inheritors of the biggest brewery in the world.

"They're young and are given the task of taking on this incredibly successful brand. The first priority is: Don't screw it up. And the second priority is to make Guinness even bigger."

Happy Valley actor Norton stars as the "intriguing" Sean Rafferty, a character that Knight has described as "extraordinary".

"James was our first choice, like a lot of the cast," Knight said. "Rafferty is one of the most extraordinary aspects of this series. His relationship with the family depicts how modern the story actually is."

Also in the cast are True Detective: Night Country's Dervla Kirwan, Game of Thrones star Jack Gleeson, Everything Now's Niamh McCormack, Obituary star Danielle Galligan and The Sandman's Ann Skelly.

Meanwhile, Knight also described the relationship between brothers Arthur and Edward as the "heart" of House of Guinness.

"I won't give away the plot — but they were given joint stewardship of the brewery for very interesting reasons," Knight said. "Before he died, their father very deliberately chained Arthur and Edward together in responsibility for the brewery. You'll find out why when you watch."

House of Guinness will arrive to Netflix on 25 September.
