Stephen Knight's period drama House of Guinness has received a huge update, following its "dazzling" first season. The Netflix series has been renewed for a second instalment, with production set to take place early next year, according to Variety.
Set in 1860s Ireland, the show centres around the famous brewery, founded by Sir Benjamin Guinness. Following his death, his empire is split between his four adult children Arthur, Edward, Anne and Benjamin.
In season one, the heirs struggle with sibling rivalry and political unrest which threaten to destroy both their father's legacy and their futures. With the final episode ending on a major cliffhanger, the upcoming season will likely bring even more drama, scandal and strife.

The show currently holds a 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes from 50 reviews, with critics branding it "intoxicating" and "wilding entertaining".

"House of Guinness is never dull. In fact, as family sagas go, it is, yes, rip-roaring," said The Times, with Pajiba noting: "It's smutty, political, wildly entertaining, and sharper than a razor blade in the peak of a flat cap."
"Led by an ensemble of riveting performances and soaked in intoxicating style, House of Guinness is a dazzling television outing that sees Knight at his absolute best," added The Upcoming.

However, some critics were quick to point out the historical inaccuracies, with Irish Times declaring: "To Knight, all the Irish seem much the same; the Guinness dynasty and their peers are just that little bit posher."
Empire added: "The first two episodes do it no favours, and set it up as an insipid historical slog, though with perseverance, it does eventually settle into something a little more smooth and robust."
House of Guinness is streaming on Netflix.
