A first-look image of the new version of Robin Hood, starring Sean Bean and Connie Nielsen, has been released.

MGM+ has a new dramatic interpretation of the classic hero from British folklore set to premiere later this year.

The press release describes the show as "a smart, sweeping, romantic adventure that brings historical authenticity, psychological depth, and a heightened focus on the relationship between Rob and Marian to the beloved story".

However, Bean and Nielsen aren't playing Robin Hood and Maid Marian. They're playing the Sheriff of Nottingham and Eleanor of Aquitaine, respectively.

The duo feature in character in this first-look image, which is described as "offering a glimpse at the tense rivalries and high-stakes power struggles at the heart of this reimagined take".

Behind the scenes, SEAL Team's John Glenn serves as showrunner and Librarians: The Next Chapter's Jonathan English serves as director, while the two executive produced and wrote the show together.

"Following the Norman invasion of England, Rob – a Saxon forester's son – and Marian, the daughter of a Norman lord – fall in love and work together to fight for justice and freedom," reads the logline.

"As Rob rises as the leader of a band of rebel outlaws, Marian infiltrates the power at court, as both work together to thwart royal corruption and bring peace to the land."

Robin Hood will stream on MGM+, which is available as a Prime Video channel, in the UK, Italy, Germany, Spain, Belgium, and the Netherlands later this year.
