HBO has a new dark and gritty crime drama on the way that you'll want to keep an eye out for.

Task comes from Brad Ingelsby, the brains behind Mare of Easttown, and focuses on an FBI agent whose world collides with a family man.

Set in Philadelphia, it follows the agent (played by Marvel's Mark Ruffalo), who "heads a Task Force to put an end to a string of violent robberies led by an unsuspecting family man" – the latter of whom is portrayed by Ozark's Tom Pelphrey.

Ingelsby recently told Vanity Fair that the seven-part series is inspired by his own uncle, a former priest who left his job for a woman, as well as the fact that priests have been known to help out FBI agents.

"I’m really close to my uncle, so I’m always asking him questions," he explained. "Essentially, why did he leave? What’s his relationship like with God? How has that changed, evolved over time?

What to Read Next

"That was a character that I was interested in – a man whose faith is challenged by events in his life. How does he react and respond?"

Sharing why he set to show in his own hometown of Philadelphia, the showrunner admitted that he can "speak about and write about with some conviction and authority".

Ingelsby is on board as an executive producer alongside Ruffalo, Paul Lee, Mark Roybal, Ron Schmidt and David Crockett, while fellow execs Jeremiah Zagar (Hustle) and Salli Richardson-Whitfield (The Gilded Age) will direct.

"We are absolutely thrilled to once again to join forces with Brad Ingelsby, the brilliant auteur behind Mare of Easttown," Francesca Orsi, Head of HBO Drama Series and Films, previously said in a statement.

"Brad's boundless creativity and unrivalled ability to captivate audiences is nothing short of inspiring, and we cannot be more excited to embark on another journey together.

"When the opportunity arose to partner with Mark on another series, we all jumped at the chance to witness him once again breathe great humanity into a new role."
