Upcoming '80s-set crime drama The Westies has announced a number of new cast members.

The MGM+ show, which previously confirmed the likes of Grantchester's Tom Brittney and Oscar-winner JK Simmons, focuses on the titular New York City Irish-American crime gang.

It has now been revealed (via Variety) that filming has begun, with Downton Abbey's Allen Leech, Daredevil: Born Again's Hamish Allan-Headley, The Fall's Vincent Walsh and Happy Face's Hilary McCormack joining the ensemble.

Leech will take on the role of IRA cell leader Brendan Cahill, Allen-Headley will portray the Gambino crime family's John Gotti, Walsh will play Westies advisor Eddie Breen, while McCormack has been cast as street hustler Erin Malone.

The series centres on the construction of the Jacob Javitz Convention Center in Hell's Kitchen, which promises financial rewards for the gang, and despite being outnumbered by the Italian mafia "the Westies’ legendary brutality and cunning have given them the leverage necessary to share the spoils through a fragile détente".
