Bergerac, the returning reboot of the beloved 1980s BBC detective drama, has confirmed an exciting update with a new cast announcement.

Based on the original 1980s series starring John Nettles, the modern re-imagining stars Damien Molony as the titular detective as he attempts to solve one character-led murder mystery across six episodes.

Released earlier this year, season one proved popular among audiences, becoming the highest-rated programme on U&Drama ever and was renewed for a second season in April.

Announcing the new cast today, UKTV confirmed that Rain Dogs star Adrian Edmondson and Red Eye actor Lesley Sharp will be joining Molony for season two.

In the second instalment, which will return in 2026, Edmondson will play Nigel, a love interest for Zoë Wanamaker's Charlie Hungerford, while Sharp will play a character named Monica.

Per the official synopsis, the second series "will see Jim Bergerac starting to put his life back together, while his mother-in-law Charlie Hungerford has a new man in her life.

"Jim’s even tentatively dating, with Kim’s (Sweetlove) encouragement, although it’s a big step for him. But then he meets Nicola (Beeput), a visitor to Jersey, and they connect. Could this be the start of something for Jim?

"However, before the relationship even has time to blossom, Jim is pulled back into his next big case. When the groom at a wedding reception on the island is found murdered in his hotel room, the wedding party comes under intense suspicion and scrutiny."

Bergerac is available to stream for free on U.
