Channel 5 has confirmed that Death in Benidorm, a new detective drama with a Death in Paradise-style twist, is currently in development.
While details surrounding the series remain limited, the broadcaster has announced that Simon Delaney, who previously directed two episodes of Death in Paradise, will be at the helm.
"Former detective Dennis Crown has swapped the chaos of the UK for a quieter life running a bar in Benidorm," explains the synopsis. "But when tourists start turning up dead, he's reluctantly drawn back into detective work — egged on by his barmaid Rosa, a crime drama superfan.
"With Dennis's real-world experience and Rosa's encyclopaedic TV knowledge, each episode sees the duo tackling a new murder in paradise, whilst trying to remain on the right side of the local Spanish cops."
Deputy Chief Content Officer and Head of Scripted at Paramount UK, Sebastian Cardwell, has revealed that Death in Benidorm is one of six new shows on Channel 5's slate, telling fans to expect "brand new thrillers and character-driven mysteries".

Also in the pipeline, Channel 5 has commissioned a second thriller series titled Missed Call. Rounding out Channel 5's growing drama portfolio, the broadcaster has also ordered a psychological drama called The Family Secret as well as Imposter, a four-part series starring Coronation Street's Kym Marsh and Neighbours legend Jackie Woodburne.
Imposter will centre on hotel owner Helen, a woman who finds herself confronted by the daughter she once gave up for adoption. Upon Amanda's return, however, Helen begins to suspect that Amanda might not be who she says she is.
Death in Benidorm is yet to receive a release date.
