Returning Scottish ITV drama Karen Pirie is about to finally premiere its second season this weekend, after a three year wait.

And the people behind the show want you to know that your patience will be rewarded, promising shocks aplenty.

"There are a lot of twists – a lot of twists," executive producer Simon Heath said at a Q&A for Karen Pirie season 2 (via Radio Times).

"And we go abroad, and we go across Europe, and there's some more great post-punk songs in the soundtrack."

"I think the important thing is not to take anything for granted," director Gareth Bryn added. "Assume nothing."

What to Read Next

This second season is based on Val McDermid's 2008 novel A Darker Domain, which sees a kidnapping that took place all the way back in 1984 suddenly become an open case thanks to the discovery of a mysterious man's body.

Karen must try and solve this mystery that spans across Tuscany and Fife, but what "painful secrets" was the missing oil heiress hiding?

Alongside returning cast members Lauren Lyle, Chris Jenks and Zach Wyatt, season 2 also features Game of Thrones' James Cosmo, The Vicar of Dibley's James Fleet, Trust Me's Saskia Ashdown and Catastrophe's Frances Tomelty.
