Jack Docherty "can't wait" to reprise his role as "Scotland's finest crime-fighting legend", Chief Commissioner Cameron Miekelson, in season two of The Chief.

As confirmed by the BBC, the second instalment of the hit sitcom is officially in production, with the cast and crew filming the new four-part series in Glasgow this week.

Docherty, who pens and fronts The Chief, has also revealed that Mission: Impossible 2 and Crime star Dougray Scott will make a one-off cameo in series two.

"This series I'm delighted that Dougray Scott will be guest-starring," said Docherty. "The Scottish public have longed to see these two giants of acting together on screen. Well, the wait is over. We're going toe to toe. Finally. Like DeNiro and Pacino in Heat."

Echoing this sentiment, Scott, who will be playing himself, has shared his excitement. "I am very much looking forward to spending time with The Chief. He's a legend in his own lunchtime, a justice seeker of gargantuan proportions and outrageously funny…without realising it," mused the actor.

"I may have worked in Hollywood with A-listers, but starring alongside The Chief might be one of my most challenging roles to date. Joking aside, it's going to be great to work alongside Jack Docherty – I just hope I can keep a straight face!"

Joining Docherty and Scott will be cast regulars Lorraine McIntosh and Eilidh Loan, who will reprise their roles as Miekelson's ex-wife Barbara and daughter Ellen, respectively. Likewise, Carmen Pieraccini, Dylan Bore and Lana Pheutan are all back as Katriona Muldoon, Paul Weir and Lyndsey McLeod.

Sanjeev Kohli, who recently appeared in Netflix's Department Q, has also joined the cast, with his character described as an "MSP from a new government putting pressure on the Chief from the top."

Currently, plot details are limited, however, fans can expect to see more hilarious antics from Miekelson as he continues to balance his work and home lives.

Season one of The Chief is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
