Prepare to have your heart broken as 1980s-set romantic drama Mix Tape is making its way to BBC Two next week.

Set to explore the lead characters' missed chances across two different timelines, the series stars One Day star Jim Sturgess and A Discovery of Witches' Teresa Palmer as Daniel and Alison.

From teenage sweethearts in 1989 Sheffield (played by Bridgerton's Florence Hunt and newcomer Rory Walton-Smith) to strangers living at opposite sides of the world, the two characters reconnect through a song from their past.

As memories of their abrupt separation resurface, both Alison and Daniel wonder if they were meant to be, whatever that means.

Soundtracked to new wave hits – the trailer uses 'Love Will Tear Us Apart', quite aptly – Mix Tape airs on BBC Two from 15 July, with all episodes dropping on iPlayer earlier that day.

What to Read Next

The series – described by the BBC as "intoxicating" – takes place in two timelines and two distinct settings, with Sheffield taking centre stage in the present-day timeline and in the 1980s storyline.

Meanwhile, the action also jumps onto the southern hemisphere in contemporary Sydney, where Alison now lives.

As per the show's longline, Mix Tape delves into "the moral dilemma at the heart of the story", asking if a second chance with "the one who got away" is worth risking everything you have, including a supposedly happy marriage and a family.
