The divisive US remake of beloved BBC show Ghosts has quietly dropped a new season on BBC iPlayer.

The comedy series, which first launched in 2021, takes the same concept of the original UK sitcom as a young couple inherit a big country house only to discover it's inhabited by ghosts.

The fourth season of the show has now dropped on the British streamer, having originally aired in the US between October last year and this May.

Ghosts US has landed a mixed reception from fans, some suggesting it is inferior to the British show as one wrote in a Google Review that it is "done poorly from the original UK version".

Another suggested they are "far more critical of this version simply because [they] have been watching the Brit original", while a third argued that if fans want "an actually funny show with the same concept (also pretty much the same characters) watch the BBC version".

However, many have been won over, one fan writing that they are "completely revising" their original verdict on the American show.

"I came into it with certain expectations because I had fallen in love with the BBC version of it and those expectations weren't met," they added. "There's been quite a few episodes since that season premier in 2021 and this show is fully its own animal at this point. And it's great! They've really hit their stride."

"As a Brit, who loved the UK version of Ghosts, I was sceptical that the US version would live up to the original," another added.

"If you've watched Brit Ghosts first, you'll find this slow to get started, but when it does, you'll find yourself fully engaged and loving it. As the episodes roll by, the actors clearly engage more with their characters and really begin to shine and bring the storylines alive."

One fan even called the US version "way better", explaining: "The variety of characters, leading the way for imaginative writing that takes the viewers on a rollercoaster ride of emotions."

The original UK Ghosts stars Charlotte Ritchie and Kiell Smith-Bynoe, ending its run in 2023 after five seasons on the BBC.

Both the US and UK versions of Ghosts are available to stream now on BBC iPlayer.
