Suspicion, the "riveting" cat-and-mouse thriller starring Uma Thurman and The Big Bang Theory's Kunal Nayyar, is on television tonight in the UK.

The show sees Thurman play an American businesswoman named Katherine Newman, whose life is turned upside down after her 21-year-old son is kidnapped. As the investigation gets underway, suspicion falls upon five ordinary British citizens.

Joining Thurman and Nayyar in the star-studded cast are Barbarian star Georgina Campbell, Big Mood's Lydia West, Game of Thrones actor Elyes Gabel, Doctor Who's Mandip Gill, and Agents of SHIELD star Elizabeth Henstridge.

The eight-part series, which is based on the Israeli drama False Flag, will premiere tonight on ITV1 at 10pm. For those who can't wait, all instalments are available to stream on ITVX after being added earlier this week.

Originally airing on Apple TV+ in 2022, Suspicion received a mixed response from critics and was subsequently cancelled by the streamer after just one season. At the time of writing, the series has an approval rating of 48% on Rotten Tomatoes from 29 reviews.

"This is political-thriller territory of a special kind, as riveting as it is complex," wrote The Wall Street Journal, while The Guardian wrote that it was a "loose, baggy thing that only begins to approach the necessary slickness a good quarter of the way" into the drama.

"If you get through the initial stodge, you'll find a tense, mindless thriller," said The Financial Times, while The Sydney Morning Herald wrote: "The pace remains quick but the action remains coherent... Quickly engrossing."

Not everyone agreed, with The Independent writing: "It brings to mind an important lesson: television works when it uses the storytelling tools at its disposal, rather than just hacking a story into pieces and expecting viewers to follow it."

Echoing their sentiments, Vulture penned: "Suspicion is convinced of its own cleverness and righteousness, but very little over the course of its eight episodes provides any evidence for either."

Suspicion will premiere on Saturday 21st June on ITV1 at 10pm.
