BBC sitcom Twenty Twelve is set to get a new reboot 13 years after it concluded – but with a new twist.

The original series took a mockumentary format as it followed the organisation of the 2012 London Olympics, and was spun-off into fellow show W1A, which followed life at the BBC.

It has now been confirmed (via Deadline) that a new show titled Twenty Twenty Six has been greenlit by the BBC, with Huge Bonneville set to return in the role of Ian Fletcher.

In it, the BBC head of values is enlisted to help with the World Cup in the US, Canada and Mexico as the Head of Integrity for the Twenty Twenty Six Oversight team.

While stars such as Olivia Colman appeared in the original show, Bonneville will be surrounded by a new cast including Designated Survivor's Paulo Costanzo, Fresh Off the Boat's Chelsey Crisp, The Handmaid’s Tale's Stephen Kunken, Slow Horses' Nick Blood, Jimena Larraguivel, Alexis Michalik and Stay Close's Belinda Stewart-Wilson.

Nerys Evans, producer Expectation's Creative Director, Scripted, added: "I’ve been a fan of John’s writing for such a long time, especially seeing the different challenges he creates for poor Ian Fletcher, so beautifully portrayed by Hugh Bonneville.

"We’re thrilled to be collaborating on Twenty Twenty Six, I can’t wait to see what he’s got in store for Ian this time."

Twenty Twelve originally ran for two seasons between 2011 and 2012, while W1A launched in 2014, continuing for three seasons before concluding in 2017.

The shows featured an all-star cast including Paddington's Jessica Hynes – who played fan-favourite brand consultant Siobhan Sharpe across both shows – as well as Scott & Bailey's Amelia Bullmore, The Crown's Jason Watkins, Mr Bates vs The Post Office's Monica Dolan and Bancroft's Sarah Parish.

Twenty Twelve and W1A are both available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
