A former Grantchester star has said she doesn't watch the series now she's no longer part of it as it "can be a little bit painful".

You actor Charlotte Ritchie starred as Bonnie on the beloved ITV detective period drama between season 7 and the more recent 9, which aired earlier in the year.

Speaking on her departure from the series, Ritchie said she hasn't been watching the episodes after her exit.

"I haven't, only because there's something about watching something after you've left that can be a little bit painful. But I'm so pleased," she told RadioTimes.com.

Ritchie also weighed in on the new vicar, Reverend Alphy Kotteram, played by Rishi Nair.

"I think he's doing a brilliant job, Rishi [Nair], as the new vicar, and we got to cross over and hang out a bit, which was really nice," Ritchie said.

"He's a really nice guy. And Tom [Brittney, who played Reverend Will Davenport], I think, directed some of the episodes, so they've obviously crossed over."

Ritchie went on to praise the cast of Grantchester, saying: "It's always hard. I had the nicest time on that job. They're such a lovely cast. They were so welcoming and so pro."

"I mean, you've got some really pro actors there: Kacey [Ainsworth], Tessa [Peake-Jones], Robson [Green] and Al [Weaver], and Tom is so lovely. They're really top notch. So I felt in really good company," she continued.

"But I think it was time to move on. Although I do miss that wig," she said of the blonde wig she rocked on the series. "I didn't want to move on from it."

Ritchie recently reprised the role of Kate Lockwood in the fifth and final season of Netflix's psychological thriller You, which brought the story of killer Joe Goldberg to a hotly-anticipated conclusion.

Grantchester season 9 is available to watch now on ITVX.
