ITV has cast a star of Adolescence in a "gripping" new spy thriller, which also boasts a stacked British cast.

Secret Service is based on the book by ITV News anchor Tom Bradby and focuses on tensions between the UK and Russia.

Mark Stanley, who can currently be seen as solicitor Paul Barlow in hit Netflix series Adolescence, has been announced as part of the ensemble alongside The Critic's Gemma Arterton.

Also on board are Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom's Rafe Spall, Doctor Who's Alex Kingston, Endeavour's Roger Allam, Bodies' Amaka Okafor and The Crown's Khalid Abdalla.

The story follows Arterton's MI6 officer Kate Henderson, who appears to have an ordinary life married to civil servant Stuart (Spall) with two teenage children – though she secretly heads the Russia Desk at the Secret Intelligence Service.
