The BBC's Belfast-based crime drama Blue Lights has added two new cast members to its upcoming third season.

The hit series, which was renewed for a third and fourth season ahead of season two's launch last year, stars House of the Dragon's Siân Brooke, Day of the Jackal's Katherine Devlin and Nathan Braniff as probationary officers working for the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

It's now been confirmed that Dune: Prophecy's Cathy Tyson and Bad Sisters actor Michael Smiley have joined the cast of season three, though their roles are being kept under wraps for the time being.

The upcoming instalment of Blue Lights will follow response officers Grace, Annie and Tommy as their work takes them "into a sinister world hidden behind the veneer of middle-class life, the world of the accountants and lawyers who facilitate organised crime".

The synopsis continues: "The old political and criminal order has gone and a new global gang rule Belfast, bringing danger closer to home for our officers than ever before."

"For us, the joy of making Blue Lights is spending time with the characters and watching them grow, learn, and deal with the daily adversity of response policing in Belfast," said Blue Lights co-creators and executive producers Declan Lawn and Adam Patterson.

"At its heart, this is a show about personal, institutional and social change, and we want each series to reflect that in its own way.

"We can’t imagine better custodians of our creative vision than our brilliant series three directors Jack Casey and Angela Griffin. It’s a privilege, as ever, to be back in Blackthorn."

Blue Lights airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
